Daniel 10 gives one of the Bible's most striking glimpses into spiritual warfare.

Daniel has been mourning and fasting for three weeks—21 days. He then encounters a terrifying heavenly messenger. The messenger tells Daniel that his prayer was heard from the very first day:

"Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard."
— Daniel 10:12

But something had prevented the messenger from reaching Daniel. He explains:

"But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me..."
— Daniel 10:13

The "prince of Persia" appears in the passage as a supernatural adversary associated with Persia, rather than merely the human Persian king. The messenger had therefore been opposed for the same 21 days Daniel had been praying.

Then Michael arrives.

Michael is described as "one of the chief princes." His intervention allows the messenger to continue his mission and reach Daniel. Later, the messenger says he must return to fight the prince of Persia and identifies Michael as "your prince" in Daniel 10:21.

That produces a powerful sequence:

Daniel prayed → God heard immediately → the messenger was sent → an unseen enemy resisted him → the conflict lasted 21 days → Michael arrived to help → the messenger reached Daniel.
