Esther was a young Jewish woman living in Persia who unexpectedly became queen. When the king’s official Haman devised a plan to destroy the Jewish people, Esther faced an enormous decision. Approaching the king without being summoned could mean her death, but remaining silent could mean the destruction of her people.
Her cousin Mordecai challenged her with the thought that perhaps she had reached her position “for such a time as this.” Esther called for fasting, found the courage to act, and risked her life by going before the king. Her bravery ultimately exposed Haman’s plot and helped save her people.
